1000 innovative clean energy solutions and > 150 framework enablers with the potential to deliver more than twelve gigatonnes of avoided emissions by 2030

These assessments are based on a basic avoided emission assessment. The overall concept of avoided emissions is that a solution (product or service) enables the same function to be performed with significantly less GHG emissions. The method of measuring avoided emissions, is to compare a baseline scenario without the enabling solution, with a scenario using the enabling solution; whereby the baseline represents the ‘business as usual’ (BAU) scenario.

These assessments are based on the framework document: The Avoided Emissions Framework (AEF) from September 2020

Biodegradable edible plastic from milk

Biodegradable edible plastic from milk

Milkywaste-zero waste wrote: We can see a lot of alarming facts and figures about our planet slowly drowning in plastic waste. But at milkywaste we also noticed decreasing prices of bovine milk in europe on one hand and increased production of powdered milk on the other hand. This can cause eu farmers to lose their jobs and for all of us to lose our beloved planet. That is why we found an environmentally friendly way to use casein from milk to produce biodegradable and even edible plastic and coating for needs in the packaging industry. By using our products, you are prolonging the expiration date and quality of your products. Thereby increasing the shelf life and reducing waste and cost of waste transfer... We turn apples into fashion

We turn apples into fashion

Waste Into Treasure wrote: We turn biodegradable waste that is collected separately, like apple cores and peels or hops leaves, into a leather like material. The mechanical process has been improved and used by a few companies which still offer only small amounts and high prices, that’s where we want to differ. Our goal is to enable a circular economy by connecting waste management with product designers thus reducing waste and minimizing the need for animal leather production and processing. Through our research we found that the demand for sustainable clothing is on such a huge rise that market no longer needs educating on its importance yet there aren’t enough suppliers to cater to the consumers needs... Green Plastics

Green Plastics

Green Plastics wrote: We collect waste plastic materials from individuals in the communities in exchange for cash. We will communicate with these individuals through our ap where they will tell us their address and take a picture of their collection. Though this we create a source of income for the old ,disabled and unemployed. We will then sell the plastic bottles we accumulated to plastic recycling companies/projects . The rest of the plastics will go to our factories where they will be reinforced using pyloritic liquifaction and mixed with molten zinc to make the plastic stronger. We will then turn the 'new' plastic into plastic building materials which are stronger to construction companies at a much lower price ... Source: EIT Climate KIC's ClimateLaunchPad

Hyperloop development

Hyperloop development

Hyperloop is a new means of ground transportation that can carry passengers and cargo at speeds up to 1000 km/h inside low-pressure tubes. Zeleros' hyperloop system minimizes infrastructure complexity to achieve a scalable solution that will enable long-distance travel. By integrating Zeleros’ main levitation and propulsion technologies in the vehicle, the electrification needs of infrastructure are reduced, resulting in lower costs and easier maintenance. The fully-autonomous vehicle enables the use of a tubular infrastructure which has reduced construction and maintenance costs in comparison with other high-speed ground transport systems.

Solar steam for industrial processes

Solar steam for industrial processes

Solatom is a solar concentrator designed for generating high temperature heat (steam, hot water or thermal oil) in industrial processes. Solatom's modules are formed by rows of mirrors that track the sun, reflecting the sunlight on a vacuum tube. The fluid circulating through the tube absorbs the reflected energy producing an increase in the temperature of the fluid (up to 300 °C). Each module has a nominal power of 15 kW thermal. When more capacity is needed, the modules are joined together, increasing the total power of the plant. The system is designed for be deployed on the rooftop, with a specific weight under 23 kg/m².

Environmental intelligence for healthy cities

Environmental intelligence for healthy cities

Green Urban Data produces software that monitors and measures temperature at the neighbourhood level, locating the most vulnerable areas and offering recommendations for action to stabilize the temperature in those areas. Their innovation aims to counteract the effects of temperature on the health and economy of a city, using software as a service (SaaS) to adapt a city to the effects of temperature variations. Possible uses are for the interconnectivity of green urban areas, the design of protocols to act against heat waves, and the planning and design of green infrastructure.
