These assessments are based on a basic avoided emission assessment. The overall concept of avoided emissions is that a solution (product or service) enables the same function to be performed with significantly less GHG emissions. The method of measuring avoided emissions, is to compare a baseline scenario without the enabling solution, with a scenario using the enabling solution; whereby the baseline represents the ‘business as usual’ (BAU) scenario.

Enviro has developed a process for recycling old tyre material into several useful products. The process, where the tyres are introduced as shredded pieces, includes pyrolysis followed by separation and treatment, resulting in steel that can be sold, industry-grade oil, gas that is re-used for energy in the recycling process, and carbon black, which is sold for reusage in new products. The innovation is unique in its ability to evenly heat the tyre material in the reactor, allowing for high efficiency and enables the extraction of carbon black from the material.

As wind turbines increase in height, transportation poses considerable problems given that base diameters for 100+ meter towers exceed 4.3 meters and the limit for transport width in most parts of the USA and the EU. Furthermore, conventional steel tower constructions get dramatically more expensive with height due to the increasing need for thicker walls. In order to make significant returns on wind technology investments, organizations will need to drastically improve both costs and efficiency. Chitin is a high-value bio-polymer with many uses in medicine, cosmetics and as a food additive. In the next few years, Hexafly predicts that the exponential increase in demand for fish food will far exceed supply. Industry will not be able to meet this demand due to declining wild fish stocks, stricter fishing quotas and an increase in material costs. The aim of the innovation is to bring an insect farming revolution to the world and find smart ways to feed the planet.
