Strongcrete technology better controls the concrete casting process and gives the concrete an improved compaction, making it possible to reduce the cement in the concrete mix by 20% and at the same time improve the quality of the concrete. The innovation also includes a remotely controlled robot that travels over the surface of the soft concrete, which delivers a stronger, flatter and tighter concrete surface thereby reducing very common problems like surface cracks as well as enables better bonding.

Dematerialisation reflects the move to a more digital society enabled through digital communication, replacing physical objects with digital and on-line equivalents. This also includes reduction in personal travel by moving to on-line transactions. The avoided carbon emissions include: the reduction in embodied carbon from the de-materialisation of CDs, DVDs, games, books, newspapers and mail; and transport emissions savings from personal travel reductions associated with shopping (these savings are offset to a certain extent by an increase in courier/delivery travel emissions). BT developed a methodology to quantify the carbon benefits associated with super-fast broadband (fibre-optic residential internet access), which is driving the uptake of digital distribution of goods and services. Surfcleaner removes oil and other waste products such as plastic and debris from water surfaces. This is done using automatic separator that automatically drags in everything (including water) into it. The water is then removed using separation and returned to the water mass while the rest of the materials is transported to a secondary storage unit that can be emptied at will. The device itself is cheap and requires minimal service while also having a long lifetime. The solution can be applied to specific situations such as oil spills or wastewater treatment, but also for general for areas such as plastic collection.

Surface water hydro kinetic turbine

MACLEC Technical Project Laboratory has developed a hydro kinetic turbine which is able to generate power in a low-velocity stream without blocking or creating any major disturbance in the flow of the water body. Being built to be installed radially over streams of water, the solution has little to no problem with debris/waste interrupting the power generation, even in areas with heavy debris build-up. For similar reasons the company states that it does not interrupt local aquatic life. The device is floating on the surface, thus being able to adjust to changing water level due to local weather.
