1000 innovative clean energy solutions and > 150 framework enablers with the potential to deliver more than twelve gigatonnes of avoided emissions by 2030

These assessments are based on a basic avoided emission assessment. The overall concept of avoided emissions is that a solution (product or service) enables the same function to be performed with significantly less GHG emissions. The method of measuring avoided emissions, is to compare a baseline scenario without the enabling solution, with a scenario using the enabling solution; whereby the baseline represents the ‘business as usual’ (BAU) scenario.

These assessments are based on the framework document: The Avoided Emissions Framework (AEF) from September 2020

Seaweet

Seaweet wrote: Forests are becoming scarce, soils are getting drier and temperature is getting hotter than ever. And at a moment of a climate crisis we still need to feed 10 billion people in 2050. Either we adapt just like every specie did throughout the process of natural evolution or we inevitably face extinction. Seaweet wants to take part on this change by providing the most sustainable life source – microalgae. It doesn’t require arable land to grow, needs 6 times less water than maize and has more protein and iron than meat. At seaweet, we design microalgae based irresistible superfoods to every person that wants to eat in a sustainable and healthy way. Join the algae community and let’s repair the place that we call home... Source: EIT Climate KIC's ClimateLaunchPad

Modular rubber sidewalks

Modular rubber sidewalks

UrbanTech wrote: Through the recycling of disused tires, the proposal is that a new sidewalk model will be created, configured in individual modules, allowing a design variability, following customer preference regarding shape and arrangement of parts. Being more resistant, durable and sustainable, and requires little maintenance. What makes this idea interesting is the fact that it is standardized, to obtain greater accessibility to attract the most diverse pedestrian audiences, having a social inclusion and bringing autonomy to those most affected by the lack of mobility, encouraging the conscious use of cars... Returning wire hangers to dry cleaners

Returning wire hangers to dry cleaners

Boomerang wrote: Boomerang collection cartons are a functional way for customers to collect wire hangers from their dry cleaners and return them for reuse. At the same time, they offer dry cleaners the opportunity to place advertisement on the cartons and increase customer loyalty by offering discounts for returned hangers. Both parties save money: customers by not disposing them with the household trash and dry cleaners by not having to buy new ones. And what's more important, the amount of co2 for production and import as well as trash from single-use of the wire hangers is reduced!.. Source: EIT Climate KIC's ClimateLaunchPad

URBiome wrote: Climate change adaptation is acknowledged as one of the main challenges faced by mankind. As cities are becoming the dominant human setting, many local authorities are trying to deal with this issue by developing thorough adaptation plans. However, most cities still lack implemented plans, and even when they exist, they tend to be an administrative tools scarcely used by the common citizen. Thus, this is the perfect opportunity to implement an integrated web-sig platform for home searching, that shows the most relevant urban climate change-related layers, such as pollutant exposure, sea level rise or the urban heat island effect, as translated from the plethora of satellite remote sensing data available... BIOBIM - Smart organic disposal

BIOBIM - Smart organic disposal

Corujão wrote: We solved the problem of disposing of organic waste through a smart bin that is able to weigh the organic waste deposited in it and is connected to an application that rewards citizens who collaborate in waste separation. Our app has a gamification, where there is a virtual plant that grows as the citizen deposits the waste and receives points that can be reversed into benefits. The waste is sold to companies that use the product as raw material and our system will manage the collection, on demand. So companies gain greater accessibility to materials and save on storage logistics... Source: EIT Climate KIC's Climathon

Bio-Urja: low cost dry anerobic digestor

Bio-Urja: low cost dry anerobic digestor

BioUrja is an efficient ready-to-assemble biogas generator from waste with remote monitoring system. Apart from producing biogas to replace fossil fuels, you also get organic manure as the byproduct. In addition, this relieves the need to treat hazardous human waste. BioUrja is an easy to setup solution with a two year payback time. The system provides biogas, avoiding emissions through fossil-fuels that would be used instead.

Balancers of wind farms' surplus energy

Balancers of wind farms' surplus energy

EneStor wrote: There are times when the wind farms produce too much of an electricity than it was forecast. If this happens, they have to pay a fine for the balancing services for an imbalance they have caused. This is where the e-vehicles kick in and collectively start charging by absorbing the surplus energy from the wind farms at night. In order to make this work on the spot, enestor plays a vital role to notify an ev owner by sending a signal to one’s e-vehicle to discharge whenever the market price rises above the price e-vehicle’s owner buys the electricity for...
