1000 innovative clean energy solutions and > 150 framework enablers with the potential to deliver more than twelve gigatonnes of avoided emissions by 2030
These assessments are based on a basic avoided emission assessment. The overall concept of avoided emissions is that a solution (product or service) enables the same function to be performed with significantly less GHG emissions. The method of measuring avoided emissions, is to compare a baseline scenario without the enabling solution, with a scenario using the enabling solution; whereby the baseline represents the ‘business as usual’ (BAU) scenario.
These assessments are based on the framework document: The Avoided Emissions Framework (AEF) from September 2020
Existing transport infrastructure often reaches its capacity limits at events, for example, which is why alternative solutions are required at short notice. Triply offers a possibility to estimate the arrival routes of the visitors in advance and to provide alternative mobility solutions for the transport. Finding stops and routing are optimized by an underlying triply algorithm, which saves money and valuable time. Triply offers a possibility to clearly display the coverage of public transport systems and to visualize the effects of changes on the accessibility. The interactive map can be used as a basis for planning or for external communication.

A substantial part of the energy used in the world is wasted as heat. Climeon AB has developed a solution to convert waste heat with temperatures between 70 and 120 °C into electricity through a vacuum process. One of the company’s key sectors is the marine sector where the Climeon Ocean™ solution converts waste heat from ship engines, creating up to several GWh of “free” electricity each year. The company claims that for some ships, that translates into a savings of more than 1,000 metric tons of fuel or 3,000 metric tons of CO₂ per year. An even larger sector is steel where Swedish steel producer SSAB running Climeon Ocean™ at their production site in Borlänge.

Clique Developments Limited manufactures solar concentrators, which generate thermal energy in the form of LP/MP steam or hot water for use in diverse applications like industrial process heating, cooking and comfort cooling. The company’s technology–ARUN® dish is a Fresnel paraboloid solar concentrator with a point focus. It can handle various heat transfer fluids including steam, hot oil, hot water or even hot air at temperatures up to 350°C and pressures up to 25 bar. The small area required for installation makes it ideal for industries with space constraints.

CMBlu Energy AG develop large-scale organic flow batteries for electrical grids. Their energy storage systems are based on renewable resources as a key technology for the energy transition and enable nationwide grid infrastructure for electromobility. The organic electrolytes are produced from the natural source lignin, which is available in almost unlimited amounts in the pulp and paper industry. Lignin derivates are obtained very cost- effective from waste streams of existing mills. They claim that their technology enables storage capacities of 1250 GWh every year only using existing infrastructure
