1000 innovative clean energy solutions and > 150 framework enablers with the potential to deliver more than twelve gigatonnes of avoided emissions by 2030
These assessments are based on a basic avoided emission assessment. The overall concept of avoided emissions is that a solution (product or service) enables the same function to be performed with significantly less GHG emissions. The method of measuring avoided emissions, is to compare a baseline scenario without the enabling solution, with a scenario using the enabling solution; whereby the baseline represents the ‘business as usual’ (BAU) scenario.
These assessments are based on the framework document: The Avoided Emissions Framework (AEF) from September 2020

Spent coffee grounds are residues that left behind in a quantities measurable in millions of tons, that mostly end up in landfill. We collect them and process within green technology, based on a unique combination of enzymatic and bacterial fermentation activity. The resulting product is enriched with physiologically essential compounds and exempted of anti-nutrients. It is several-fold health beneficial, being mainly intended for ruminants and highly recommended in lactating cows diet for improving the milk quality and reducing the risks of mastitis infections... It wants to bring together people with different cultural and disciplinary backgrounds. To fight the global climate crisis, we need to change urban life substantially. With refunghi we want to focus on mushrooms which can not only be used as a sustainable source of proteins but also for ecofriendly materials like alternatives for plastics or vegan leather. Mushrooms can be grown under urban conditions and on supposed waste like coffee grounds, which is another benefit for a more efficient use of our limited resources... Using the openrouteservice, we generated various routes within heidelberg and analysed their properties with regard to these features. As a proof of concept, we implemented an application that can generate three routes between two points: the shortest one, the one with the highest proportion of illumination, and the one with the smallest intersection with the tram tracks. As a motivational gimmick, the amount of co2 saved by not using an (average) car for this distance is displayed... Source: EIT Climate KIC's Climathon

Around 40% of the electricity worldwide is consumed by rotating electrical machines. However, most of the electrical machines are not working at the optimum point from a process efficiency perspective. SpinDrive's solution claims to lower the customer's lifecycle costs by 35%. The company provides design and prototyping of high-speed electrical drivetrains and serial production of active magnetic bearings. SpinDrive’s solution claims to lower the drivetrain losses by half. They further claim that, for the 500-kW unit operating 8000 hours per year, their solution enables 2-year payback time.
