CMBlu Energy AG develop large-scale organic flow batteries for electrical grids. Their energy storage systems are based on renewable resources as a key technology for the energy transition and enable nationwide grid infrastructure for electromobility. The organic electrolytes are produced from the natural source lignin, which is available in almost unlimited amounts in the pulp and paper industry. Lignin derivates are obtained very cost- effective from waste streams of existing mills. They claim that their technology enables storage capacities of 1250 GWh every year only using existing infrastructure

Optimized tap nozzles saving water

Conventional taps allow water to gush out at around 10–12 liters per minute – but only a fraction of that water is actually used for washing hands or rinsing plates. Altered:Nozzle “atomizes” the water, breaking it up into a high speed dense mist made out of millions of individual drops. The speed of the water is also increased up to 50 km/h. This way the user gets in contact with, and uses, every single drop of water coming out of the tap. The result is only 2% of the flow compared to a regular tap. It consists of a simple retro-fit that can be installed in less than a minute in most existing taps in the world today. This design is said to significantly reduce water consumption as well as energy.

Optimization of solar collectors

Aiguasol have designed a solar concentration called 'Ulisses'. Ulisses is a cylindrical concentrator which uses flat movable mirrors rotating on a shaft. Ulisses can be coupled to flat solar collectors or to photovoltaic modules, thereby enhancing their efficiencies and minimizing the cost of power generation. The fact that the mirrors are movable allows the structures and protective systems from wind, snow, and high temperatures to be simplified.

Optimization of indoor environment

Optimization of heating and cooling solutions

The innovation is an analytic tool that can be applied to Heating, Ventilation, Airconditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) systems, to detect deviations and in the end save energy. The analytics can detect performance losses in refrigeration systems and pinpoint where the deviation occurs. Either monitoring sensors are installed in combination with the analysis tool, or there are available sensors that the tool can connect to. Optimal operation and predictive maintenance can save energy and in turn reduce the need for energy production.
