1000 innovative clean energy solutions and > 150 framework enablers with the potential to deliver more than twelve gigatonnes of avoided emissions by 2030
These assessments are based on a basic avoided emission assessment. The overall concept of avoided emissions is that a solution (product or service) enables the same function to be performed with significantly less GHG emissions. The method of measuring avoided emissions, is to compare a baseline scenario without the enabling solution, with a scenario using the enabling solution; whereby the baseline represents the ‘business as usual’ (BAU) scenario.
These assessments are based on the framework document: The Avoided Emissions Framework (AEF) from September 2020

Recent studies have revealed that n2o emissions contribute to approximately 6% to the global climate change and are potentially the main contributor to the ozone depletion of the 20th century. The greenergy process combines intentional n2o production from biogas production residues, subsequent harvesting and combustion with biogas. As a result, clean water and green energy from n2o combustion ultimately make the biogas production a more self-sufficient and clean technology... Source: EIT Climate KIC's ClimateLaunchPad

Tomapaint meets the demand for sustainable production and for the safeguarding of consumer health, at the same time increasing the competitiveness of the metal cans industry, valorizing the wastes produced by the preserved industry and reducing refuse. The highly innovative eco-friendly packaging is less dangerous for consumer health with less risk of contamination and is able to compete with other packaging materials, such as bioplastics... Furthermore most plastic coated papers are not suited to composting, but do variously end up in compost bins, sometimes even legally so. In this case, the remains of the non-biodegradble plastics components form part of the global microplastics waste problem. It would be so much easier, cheaper and faster if we had a truly biodegradable coating. Lam'on set out to develop a biodegradable and compostable laminating film in order to replace the plastic one, used in the printing industry. We want to change the way we think of printed media and upgrade the way we use and reuse it... Source: EIT Climate KIC's ClimateLaunchPad

This requires energy storage to act as a buffer, reducing demand when supply is low or increasing when it is high. But with the ability to store energy, managing the timing of energy use to minimize costs is extremely complex. We create a game-changing solution — a tool with superior intelligence for managing energy storage, for a problem too complex for humans alone to solve. It uses a unique piping scheme that’s highly adaptable and incorporates shallow depths of installations, small pipe diameters and optimum case-by-case design. The relatively affordable cost of the system and its versatility means that this system could be implemented in areas where conventional systems cannot be implemented. For example areas that lack the necessary space of installation and informal/unplanned areas. The system also adopts a communal participatory approach, meaning that the community is one of the key participants in the design, implementation, and operation and maintenance phases... It is fully automated which means that only maintenance is required to keep the system working, and we link together the junctions, which creates a network of intersections in the city.
