1000 innovative clean energy solutions and > 150 framework enablers with the potential to deliver more than twelve gigatonnes of avoided emissions by 2030

These assessments are based on a basic avoided emission assessment. The overall concept of avoided emissions is that a solution (product or service) enables the same function to be performed with significantly less GHG emissions. The method of measuring avoided emissions, is to compare a baseline scenario without the enabling solution, with a scenario using the enabling solution; whereby the baseline represents the ‘business as usual’ (BAU) scenario.

These assessments are based on the framework document: The Avoided Emissions Framework (AEF) from September 2020

Clean water solutions to all

Clean water solutions to all

GermSafe Technology wrote: In india and other developing countries, hand-pumps are the primary devices use to get the ground water available. Considering the lack of awareness, low income, and unavailability of continuous supply of electricity, people from rural areas can't afford water treatment facilities and hence prone to water borne diseases. So, this inspired us to create water disinfecting hand-pump in which a small modification in the existing set-up can serve as water treatment solution. We have successfully implemented at pilot scale followed by field trials at 15 villages in maharashtra. This modification in the pumping system resulted in ~95% water disinfection (~99. 87% for e. Coli). Our device doesn't require electricity and chemicals to operate... Source: EIT Climate KIC's ClimateLaunchPad

Pick it easy

Pick it easy

Pick it easy wrote: Our solution is a service where we collaborate with supermarkets to take the order of the customers online. The supermarket prepares the order and we ship it directly into lockers that people can open with a code. These lockers are strategically located to "collecting points" that are close to where people live. To resume, we want to decentralize grocery shoppping by reducing the distance between the people and their groceries. The customer can choose at what day he wants to pick up his groceries and have all the day to pick it up. The delivery from the supermarket to the lockers would only be once a day, and all the customers cover a really small distance to go to these lockers... Source: EIT Climate KIC's Climathon

GeoAirCon wrote: With global-warming and population growth, air-conditioning (ac) demand is expected to triple by 2030. Consider the plight of 3. 5 billion people living in hot developing countries that need air-conditioning, but can't afford it. Further, acs are the biggest building ghgs contributor, accounting for 34% of total ghg emissions. There is a dire need to find sustainable means of mitigating & adapting to a hotter climate. Geoaircon is an innovative & cost-effective solution for providing air-conditioning to the masses. With geoaircon, the cooler underground is effectively utilized for cooling through specially designed heat exchangers. This is immensely effective in providing thermal and financial relief while reducing environmental impact... Source: EIT Climate KIC's ClimateLaunchPad

Low cost small scale bio-CNG upgrading

Low cost small scale bio-CNG upgrading

Grassroots Energy has developed the first economically viable technology for purification and compression of biogas at smaller scales (100 m3/day). The compressed gas can be used for several markets such as cooking, transportation and agriculture, all of which Grassroots deem as viable markets. According to the company, it is uses 50 % energy compared to market alternatives. The purified compressed gas can reduce the impact of indoor cooking on human health as opposed to traditional alternatives.

The children pedal to go from home to school or extra activities, and back home. This service will work with the participation of the neighbourhood parents' community, who will take turns in driving the bike bus. They will organise themselves through an app where they can register, communicate and visualize the route they have to take and the children they have to pick up. The same type of idea has been introduced in small towns in france since 4 years ago and the results are very positive. We can compare these small towns to theneighborhoodsin reykjavik... Bringing plants to the people

Bringing plants to the people

OsmoForest wrote: In osmoforest our vision is to make urban gardening easier for the everyday citizen and at the same time utilizing less space and more natural rainwater. Our product is a modular tube system that collects rainwater, and uses it for growing plants in vertical space, inspired by bamboo trees. Place a few on your balcony and you will have a green space that won’t take much of your limited area; or create a community rooftop garden by putting several tubes together resembling an urban forest! . Many cities, such as athens, are experiencing issues with heat island effect. Bringing more plants into the city will help in mitigating this effect... Source: EIT Climate KIC's ClimateLaunchPad
